چکیده

A method is presented for determining erythrocyte sodium and potassium concentration. Heparinized whole blood is separated into cellular and plasma fractions in large-bore capillary tubes. An aliquot of the erythrocyte fraction is then pipetted directly into lithium chloride diluent and the electrolytes determined flame photometrically. Plasma trapping is measured with ‘4C-inulin and corrections calculated for trapped sodium and potassium. This technique is rapid, simple, and can be performed as a routine procedure by most clinical laboratories.

A modified indirect method for determining erythrocyte sodium and potassium concentrations.

An automated method was adapted to measure the concentration of Na and K in plasma, nonhemolyzed whole blood, and hemolyzed whole blood, and thus allow the calculation of erythrocyte electrolyte con.centrations by a modified indirect method. The Na concentrations of nonhemolyzed whole blood and plasma were used to calculate the percent cell volume (hematocrit) of a blood sample. The percent cel...

Evaluating the Serum Levels of Calcium, Chloride, Potassium and Sodium in the Stroke Patients

Backgrounds and Aims: Stroke incidence rate has increased during the past 2 decades. The question of whether calcium, chloride, potassium, sodium levels are associated with stroke has remained controversial. The present study aimed to evaluate the serum levels of potassium, sodium, calcium, and chloride within stroke patients. Materials and Methods: The study participants consisted of 5...

A method for simultaneously estimating plasma, erythrocyte, and leukocyte sodium, potassium, and magnesium: reference values and considerations from biological variation data.

We describe a method for measuring plasma, erythrocyte, and leukocyte sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), and magnesium (Mg2+) concentrations in 10-mL blood specimens. After separating cells with Ficoll-Hypaque and washing with isotonic choline chloride, erythrocytes and leukocytes are counted, so that results can be expressed as amount of substance per cell and also to monitor cell integrity and pos...

Determination of Potassium Sorbate and Sodium Benzoate in "Doogh" by HPLC and Comparison with Spectrophotometry

There are various methods for the analysis of Potassium Sorbate and Sodium Benzoate in food products, but a rapid and reliable method for identification of these preservatives in Doogh (an Iranian traditional dairy drink) is a procedure, in which high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) utilized and followed by UV diode array detection of the two preservatives. The aim of this case study w...

Simpler flame photometric determination of erythrocyte sodium and potassium: the reference range for apparently healthy adults.

Separated erythrocytes are washed repeatedly with iso-osmolar magnesium chloride solution, lysed by adding saponin, and sodium potassium measured in the diluted hemolysate by flame photometry. The coefficient of variation for the method was less than 4%. Reference intervals determined for a healthy population and hospitalized (elective surgery) patients without electrolyte disorders were 4.6-7....
